Piccolo Day with Andrew LaneSaturday 24th March 2018, 10am-4.30pm
Sharrow Performing Arts Space Sitwell Road Sheffield S7 1BE For flute players aged 15+, any level of piccolo-playing experience. Cost: £55 Are you a keen piccolo player? Or do you have one lurking in a cupboard but you're not really sure what to do with it? Or maybe you've never played one and don't know where to start? |
This day is for all flautists who are interested in learning more about the piccolo and improving their skills. Whether you play piccolo regularly, you've never picked one up before, or you've got one but it's a bit neglected, this day with piccolo expert Andrew Lane will give you a wealth of information and inspiration.
The morning will start with an introduction to the piccolo, its technique and repertoire, from the very beginning to more advanced skills and pieces. Bring a piece to work on, discover new repertoire, or just try playing picc for the first time. We'll move on to exploring some excerpts from orchestral repertoire including solos, piccolo duet excerpts and some that co-ordinate with orchestral flute parts.
In the afternoon, Andrew will coach the group on flute ensemble repertoire with multiple piccolo parts (alongside lower flutes, so everyone can play a part they're comfortable with), working on improving skills within an ensemble.

Andrew plays a Hans Reiner piccolo and a customised Anton Braun grenadilla wood flute with Tobias Mancke headjoint. He has a keen interest in the development of the flute and has helped flute-maker Willy Simmons design innovative key-mechanisms for the flute and piccolo, the most recent of which have been adopted by other renowned flute-makers. |
