Sheffield Flute Choir

Sheffield Flute Choir
Sheffield Flute Choir is a friendly group of adult flute players based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. We play a mixture of classical, jazz and modern repertoire on flutes, piccolos, alto and bass flutes.

We normally rehearse once a month on a Saturday morning, and perform at a variety of local events. Recent performances include the Classical Sheffield Festival, the Lord Mayor's Charity Dinner at Sheffield Town Hall, Sharrow Vale Market, Devonshire Market, Bird's Yard Craft Fair, Open Platform at Access Space, the opening of the Galvanize Festival at Bank Street Arts, plus events at Wentworth Woodhouse, Elsecar Heritage Centre, Whirlow Hall Farm, Weston Park Museum, Cannon Hall and Worsbrough Mill.

We're always keen to collaborate with other musical groups and composers, and love trying out new compositions and arrangements for flutes!

Our upcoming performances are included in this list. Get the latest news by liking our Facebook page or following us on Twitter @shefflutechoir. We're always happy to play at different events and venues, so if you're running an event and would like lots of flutes to provide some tunes, please email sheffieldflute@gmail.com with the details!

Below you can hear us playing 'Steel City Shuffle', written for us by Yorkshire composer Tim Knight; 'Night falls on the green hollows' by local Sheffield composer Danielle Sammy and 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' by Handel. You can also find us on YouTube.

Join us!
New members are very welcome. If you're over 16 and around Grade 5 standard upwards, we'd love you to join us. It doesn't matter if you're a bit 'rusty' and haven't played for a while. If you've never played piccolo, alto or bass flute before, we are happy to share instruments to let people have a go!

We generally have ten morning rehearsals per year. Fees are £7 per rehearsal or a single payment of £65 per year. Some rehearsals are followed by an afternoon workshop/ informal concert with some of my flute pupils and in the summer we run a full-day open rehearsal/ playday. There is no extra charge for these for flute choir members.

If you're interested in joining, please contact sheffieldflute@gmail.com and we'll send you more information and rehearsal dates.
